The Little Lilypad is a lifestyle blog mostly written by a mum to two beautiful, cheeky and entertaining daughters. It is sometimes written by the Man on the Pad or by one of our baby bloggers. Occasionally we accept guest posts too. There is frequently talk of sustainable living, saving money, lifestyle and travel. It is hopefully helpful, sometimes funny and always honest.

  1. I started a journey.

Not a physical one but an emotional one and a journey that takes me away from my obsession with chocolate and towards that vision of a sleek silhoutte of a wedding dress.

I *may* have mentioned the upcoming wedding but for some time I have been conscious that I have been unhappy with my figure. I am the heaviest I have ever been, despite being the happiest I have ever been .... some may say that is contentment.

"Heavy" that is the word I would use to describe how I feel, so I knew I needed to do something about it.

    Thinking Slimmer

So I started my Slimpod journey with Thinking Slimmer and within a matter of days, I have found myself looking at chocolate and having no inclination to eat it.

The Creme Egg that usually taunts me after Easter is still in the fridge, along with countless other Easter Eggs that were so generously given to the girls. Usually I would "help" to ease the number of chocolate eggs they eat but I continue to look at them, feeling no desire to eat them.

    What is wrong with me?

Can the Slimpod really work that quickly?

I even got up for a run at 6am the other day.

What is wrong with me or is it nothing at all?

    Am I really "Thinking Slimmer"?

I will keep you posted ........

  2. My Aunt was talking the other day about how lucky we are to live where we live but I suppose I take it for granted.

The sun was shining today and we told the girls that there was going to be no screen time today and we were getting outside. It was only as we were walking through the long grass in the fields opposite that it dawned on me what my Aunt was talking about.

We are fortunate to live where we can walk through fields and feed the horses.

We are fortunate that we can go and get fresh egss from the farm next door.

The great outdoors is the best playground and classroom for my girls.

For me, it's an excuse to buy fabulous wellington boots!!

  3. I have worn glasses since i was 9 years old.

I remember the day vividly when the school nurse did an eye test on every child in our class, we all sat on the floor while each child was tested.

She asked me to read the bottom line. I couldn't.

She asked me to read the line above that, I couldn't.

She asked me to start from the top and see how far down I could read. It wasn't very far.

So when Select Specs got in touch to advise that they were running a competition to WIN Free glasses for life, I knew that I needed to shout about it. Wearing glasses now is much cooler than it was when I was 9 years old, in fact my "almost" 9 year old actually wants glasses despite having perfect vision(oh the irony).

So what do you need to do? Just click on this link below:

    Free Glasses for Life

The competition is hosted directly by Select Specs and don't forget that the competition ends on Saturday 31 May at 11pm. They will be announcing the winner on Friday 6th June 2014, so make sure you keep an eye on your email inbox to see if you're the lucky winner!

In addition, Select Specs are also giving five runners-up a free pair of prescription glasses (also including standard lenses, coatings and delivery) from their exclusive economy collection, so there are more chances to win.

    Select Specs

I have worn some questionable frames over the years and as a child waited a long time to get fashionable frames but you don't have to wait. Go enter. Now!

    What are you waiting for?

Select Specs offered us a pair of glasses in return for sharing this competition but regardless of this, we think it is an amazing competition and are happy to share!

  4. Last week I wrote a post about what a Mum wants. so this week it is the turn of the girls.

I have blogged before about the differences between my two girls and this is never so prevalent as to what they want. In the space of 24 hours, I hear the words "I want" fairly frequently ..... despite my constant reminders to say "may I have" but the difference between the two never fails to make me chuckle.

    At the dinner table

Tween : Mom, I want a drink please.

Toddler : Mommy, I want her drink.

Tween : Can I have what you are eating Mom?

Toddler : I want what is on everyone else's plate, except my own.

    At bedtime.

Tween :  I want to watch a dvd, not read a book.

Toddler : I want you to read every single book on my book shelf, twice.

    At the painting table

Tween : I want to create something reallly cool.

Toddler : I want to paint over everything, including my own legs, hands and occasionally some paper.

    Children painting

    In the playroom

Tween :  I really want to finish this jigsaw.

Toddler : I want to pinch all of the pieces of the jigsaw and hide them behind the curtains.

    In the bath.

Tween : I want to lie in the bath and chill out listening to music on my iPod.

Toddler : I do not want to lie down, instead splash water everywhere while I show you my swimming skills.

    In the car:

Tween : I want to watch my dvd.

Toddler : I don't want to watch her dvd. (Thank goodness for dual control)

Tween : I want to sit in the front.

Toddler : I want to get out.

    When they are poorly

Tween : I want my Mom.

Toddler : I want MY Mom.

They might want different things at different times but they always want Mom in the end!
